Finally back into completing my new PGR9 Doctoral proposal with a new question/aim and a new methodology. This has been quite the roller-coaster of a journey with the ride stopping midway with me hanging upside down. It has taken me some time to get past the fact I needed to change direction due to one supervisor, but I have accepted that and moved on. Fitting in the re-do during a very busy couple of semesters’ worth of course leading and teaching became the biggest challenge.
Now at last coming to the end of the second semester and with my students out in practice, I can start to concentrate on my work. So I have a new question and although I have remained to concentrate on maternal mental health here in New Zealand I am now focusing on the amount of education our student midwives receive prior to them graduating as midwives. Is it focused, enough, or even culturally safe? That is the question. What do they know, how confident do they feel when thrown out into working as a real midwife with 4 years worth of knowledge crammed into them?
I have done a backflip and gone back to a philosophy I know and am comfortable with. Phenomenology here I come again. This time, however, I am using Interpretive Description to analyze/inform my work. Any help appreciated!! Wish me luck.
